Sunday Surf

I took the family up to the north shore to visit Grace Surfboards Taro, Hiroko, and Gen Taniuchi. Taro and I met up with Brian and Joe and surfed some lefts near Chun's Reef. We surfed the lefts in the bottom picture, about 3-4 feet. The top picture is Jocko's. Looks pretty big even from far away.

Saturday Surf

Mia and I headed to Daimond Head to do some surfing. This was officially Mia's first time surfing. I would hang on the back of the board to keep it stable, and my body dragging in the water to slow it down to where Mia would feel comfortable to stand up. We found out that she is a regular foot (left foot forward). She is already talking about when we can go surfing again.

Fly the Friendly Skies

I was driving by Makapu'u and saw this paraglider floating so close to the lookout. He would tug on the strings and lift off again way up into the sky. It looked so smooth and graceful. It was also the first time that I came to the lookout. It was recently renovated and a very nice tourist attraction. When whale season comes around you can see them all around this coast.

Thanks for the Comments! Keep em Coming!

Slow Motion

To my friends in Japan and on the mainland, do not rent these little cars. They are so slow. And back up the lane that they are in. At least the mopeds can go in the bike lane.

Saturday Surf

Its 10 am on a Saturday morning. The winds are light and the waves are waist to chest high with some tubes. And there's no one out! Nice photo to mind surf. Click on the photo to enlarge it.What would you do on a wave like this?

First time I saw a stand up paddler here. In fact, longboarders hardly come out here.

When this guy came out, it was time for me to go in.

Umeda's Farmers Market

After all the heavy rain, the fruits and vegetables around the house were ready to be picked. The papayas were over ripe though. Joe and Maili are my first customers. Actually, all the produce is free at this farmers market. You just have to come by at the right time when the plants have something to pick.

Brian doesn't like crowds

When it get too crowded, Brian finds his own spot. He just has to go around some rocks to get a good ride. Maybe thats why he doesn't have a nose on his surfboard. You want to join him?

The Bishop Museum

Making lava

Giant squid in the Creatures of the Abyss
Mia and I had a father /daughter day at the Bishop Museum. Seth went to a birthday party and Yuka had to work. It was a really good experience. We saw a show about the creatures that live at the darkest depths of the ocean. We saw alot of Hawaiiana, so much that I want to go back and learn more about them. The last show we saw was at the planetarium. It was all about the Hawaiian sky and stars. I recommend everyone to go there. They are closed on Tuesdays and show them your Hawaii drivers license for the kama'aina rates.

The Art of Heeholua

I took these photos of a holua sled at the Bishop Museum. Check out this video of the ancient art of surfing down hills. The Hawaiians used to ride these on rocks (as you can see in the background of the photos), not grassy hills.

Should have been here yesterday

Pro Surfer Jesse Merle Jones

Sandy Beach Full Point

I went to the beach early today to see what everyone was talking about yesterday. They said Sandy beach was 4 feet plus and you could get long rides. Well, looks like the swell dropped a couple of feet. It still looks pretty good though. I surfed down the road and it was much smaller with less people. Jesse Merle Jones came and surfed the small waves. Could this be the best spot on the island today?

Here in Hawaii, Heineken beer is the "green bottle" beer. This green bottle beer is Steinlager PURE. NO additives, NO preservatives, NO Hangover. John says that he doesn't get a hangover when he drinks this beer. Probably because he didn't drink enough! Hah hah! Just teasing- this could be the miracle beer if there is no hangover!

WhatS.U.P. everybody

I went surfing with Matt, Troy, and Shane today. Actually, Matt and I longboarded and Shane and Troy SUPed (Stand Up Paddled). The winds were strong and there wasn't much waves, but its always good to get together with the boys.

Happy New Year 2011!

Happy New Year everyone! This past year went by too fast. In 2011 I want to slow down and enjoy the moments with my family and all of you! There is alot that I want to accomplish, but will keep it to myself and hopefully you will see the results because my life involves all of you on a daily basis.

Seth helped with preparing the shrimp for the grill.

This 3 piece set is called Osechi and is a traditional Japanese New Years preparation. You can see for yourself all the different kinds of fish and vegetables that were beautifully prepared. Our friend gave us this gift to enjoy on New Years day. Yuka ate most of it. Some of the things that I liked were the butterfish, lobster tail, chicken, and sweet cashew nuts.
Visit Mamaya in Shirokiya @ the Ala Moana Shopping Center for all the authentic taste of Japan. Call them at 952-5520.
