Buffalo Big Board Event @ Makaha

I went to Makaha to see the Buffalo Big Board Event. It was a beautiful day out there. Here is one of the canoe teams getting a nice wave. Hoptong Smith of Makaha and his partner took first place in the team bodysurfing divison. I've seen him win on a shortboard, alaia board, and now no board at all. Grace team rider Yutaro Watanabe came in 4th place in the international division. This is the first time I experienced a contest where it was all about family and friends and not about winning or losing. Seth and Mia now know the word and the place" Makaha" and are already talking about going back there.

Some North Shore Action

Team Grace Hawaii got some waves this past weekend at Off the Wall and Backdoor. Brian Hanamoto got pitted and Joe Brooks (on the red board) pulled in too. I got a good one too. None of the boys could pull off this move- getting pitched to face plant. thankyou Hiroko and Taro Taniuchi for the photos!

Happy Birthday Seth!

10 years old already! So far so good. All Seth wanted were some of his friends to come over and share his special day. 4 of his buddies slept over and the next day they all went fishing.

See you in Japan Masato!

JPSA professional surfer Masato Watanabe went back to Japan after a month long stay with Grace Surfboards on the north shore. He left his winter quiver over at my place for safe keeping. When he leaves them up in the country, no guarantees it will be there when he gets back. These are his Pipeline, Sunset, and Waimea guns 7'- 8'6. He knows I won't be taking them into the water anytime soon. "Ganbatte kudasai you freak!" check out http://mwworlds.blogspot.com/ for a day in the life with Masato Watanabe.
