Morning Surf

5' 6 is the new 5' 10 these days.
Hows that fin option-single fin, thruster, quad, twin fin.

Rare sight. Check out that tattoo. It looks like a big bruise on her leg.

The waves were pretty good with some nice walls for carving and good sections for hitting.

Brian's original spray job

Got a surf session in with Brian this morning. He fixed his 5'6 any kine fin system I made for him awhile ago. To cover his ding repair, he gave his board new life with some spray art. He used all the junk mail flyers that come in the mailbox to make the different size squares and rectangles. He did it on the deck and bottom.

Sandy Beach

These signs are posted everyday.
Halona Blowhole lookout in the background

Its been very windy the last few days. These bodysurfers and bodyboarders are making the most of the shorebreak. It looks fun. You can definitely get a view from the barrel for a few seconds

Big City Diner

Yuka's friend Daisuke (Dice-K) came to Hawaii for a visit. We all went to Big City Diner for dinner. The food was good. It was kind of random pickings from the menu nachos, kim chee fried rice, and boneless kal bi. Of course we have to have poke too

Tiny Rocky Point

I went to the north shore to get my share of waves. Unfortunately, it was the end of the swell. I heard that it was bigger the day before, but onshore winds and choppy at some spots. So I was happy to get some clean 1-2 foot waves anyway. Hopefully, I can come up more often.

Monday play day

This is "mansions" named after all the million dollar mansions lining the beachfront. Looks like some solid 3 footers to me. Big difference around the corner in Waikiki where the waves looked like 1/2 a foot.
As I was driving around Diamond Head, I noticed that there were alot of cars parked there. Its a work day and looks like there are some waves. The water wasn't so crowded too.

All the tourists and locals in the water must be happy.

I was thinking to myself that everyone here at Waikiki beach today must be happy. Its Monday and we're in Hawaii at the beach. Who can be unhappy?

Good morning waves

All the locals know not to walk on these flat rocks. You'll fall on your butt and ding your surfboard too. Slippery when wet.

Its been awhile since Brian and I got to surf together. Here is a nice way to start the weekend. Sunny and uncrowded with a little bit of waves.

Grace Hawaii Brian Hanamoto

There were waves all over the place.

He popped a nice little air on the rights.

A nice wave to finish the session.

Kelly wins Portugal

Ron Wong can go big too! This is how you do it at Makapuu!

This is why Kelly slater is the 9 X world champ. He made this manuever in the semifinals. And then went on to beat Jordy in the Finals of the Rip Curl Portugal event. Check out and click on the contest link to see this and more surfing from the best surfers in the world.

Eggplant Yummy

I love this show. Yuka says whats so special about it? We can't taste the cooking. What taste good to you may not taste good to me. She has a point there. But I still watch it. And even the reruns too.

When Kazu and Kaoru stayed with us, they made a dish so simple yet so amazing. They fried eggplant then added all kinds of liquid ingredients, sake, mirin, menma, shoyu, dashi (not the kind in your instant 25 cent saimin), sesame oil, etc. Looks like there is some ginger on there as well. It was awsome. It tasted even better the next day when all the juices soaked in and was served cold.

Need some fishing tips

John gave me this book for my birthday. I think that I'm supposed to experience the same joy as this cover picture with the father and son. Seth and I haven't caught a fish yet. I was never a fisherman so its hard to teach Seth anything about it. He is really into it though and although we rarely go fishing, he said "Fishing is my life." What???????????? All of my friends that read this, please take Seth fishing.

Power from the East

Even when there are no swells to report, this spot has some size and power. The direction of these waves came from the East.

Ala Moana Beachpark

I took these shots of Ala Moana bowls over the weekend. We had a family brunch at Mariposa in Neiman Marcus, but I'm not much into taking pictures of food, so I took some pictures off the balcony instead. The waiters and busboys get a good view of the waves everyday.

Yesterday's waves

The waves were pretty good. Even with the wind there were some hollow walls. By the way, thats not Joe wiping out in the picture below. That is Joe falling off his board after his cutback. Hah hah! That was not one of his better waves.

Joe's new board

Met up with Joe and Jeff yesterday to get Joe's new Grace board to him. I was worried it was a little thick, but he has been riding a fishier board lately so this one worked out perfect for him. Thanks for the support Joe! Joe has been riding my boards since the beginning. I think we have a good formula going. Check out the waves. It wasn't bad!

Making surfboards

Custom shapes with all the bells and whistles. My friend wanted rail gutters (grooves on the rails to grab for airs), wings, a swallow, and 5 fin set up. I think he's going to be real happy with this one!

Kamiloiki Keiki Karnival

Elvis made an appearance

Rasta hair bands

The picture is off centered, but the smiles are what counts.

Every year Seth's & Mia's school has a carnival. This fundraiser raises money to help with improvements to the school and its activities. The kids had alot of fun! There are no pictures of Seth because he was running around with his pack of buddies. Even Elvis showed up!

Kona Big Island Hawaii

A little bit of green- it must be a resort or golf course.

I went over to the Big Island of Hawaii yesterday. We have a Local Motion surf shop in Kona. Not much else to say. I get to the airport at 5:30 am, fly to Kona, drive through a barren landscape with no trees only lava rock, do my work, then fly out at 11 am. No sight seeing strictly work.
