Baseball Memories

Blogs are a good way to keep in touch with family and friends who are so far away. Katchan and Etchan in Japan will like to see this. This may be the only time that we will see Mia playing baseball. The summer league is over and Mia does not want to continue. She can really hit that ball and was just starting to get a good feel for the glove.

Beautiful Diamond Head

Every time I go to the Local Motion Waikiki Sheraton, I take some pictures. Its the only time I come into Waikiki. It looks so crazy and chaotic, but I can guarantee you this; everyone is having a great time.

Shaper Steve Wilson

I went to the northshore to pick up a custom surfboard shaped by Steve Wilson. Steve started shaping in 1969 near Black Point in Kahala. Since 1980 he has been shaping for Local Motion- 30 Years! He handshapes, glasses, and airbrushes his boards. In his backyard are banana, mango, avocado, and lychee trees.

Beacuse its been slow in the surfboard making industry, Steve Wilson has taken to surfboard restoration. He strips off the old glass. Then he has to fill all the dings and broken areas of foam with putty. In some cases, he has to match the wood stringers as well. The boards he works on are classics- check out the Ben Aipa stinger in the background. The one on the rack is an Owl Chapman gun. He is a true craftsman.

Mr. Fix-it

Uncle Shane came over to fix Seth's brakes on his bike...... He couldn't fix it. I'm afraid the repair will cost more than the bike- Wallmart special.

Eating like Kings

the kala fish
turkey wraps

John caught this kala for dinner on Friday. I got the call at work to fire up the grill. This fish eats alot of seaweed so it already had that flavor infused with the white meat of the fish. Along with some turkey wraps from Cosco, we were eating like Kings. No need to go to a fancy restaurant for a special meal. Thanks John for all of the fish. Its so fresh, just a few hours out of the ocean.

5'10 winged bat

Small wave machine the winged bat tail. Usually I would make a quad , but this is a custom shape for my friend and he wanted a thruster tri-fin. the wings allow you to turn easier when your foot placement is higher up especially on smaller waves. I feel that the bat tail lets you pivot off the two points like a swallow, but has that point in the middle that sticks on steeper waves. Full nose for paddling and full outline to float through the flats.

Game Day

Mia in uniform. Swing and miss " Strike 1." Good action shot. Its okay though because there are no strikeouts, every child gets to bat, and they all run to home plate.
This is a good way to get kids to love the game of baseball. Mia had fun, but she got tired towards the end of the game.

Dinosaurs at Pearlridge

Took the kids to see the dinosaur exhibit at Pearlridge. Not much else to see other than a few diplays throughout the mall. I think that it was good to see the shopping center management doing fresh things to get the shoppers to come to Pearlridge. They did a cool bug display too. Seth really liked that one.

Customs for Dustin

Dustin Geiger got his 2 custom shapes today. I have made him a few boards now and stoked that he wanted a couple more. Both are the same dimensions 5' 9 X 19 1/4 X 2 5/16 ", but have different outlines. He wanted a bigger wave board as well as a small mush wave type board. So the light blue one has a pulled in thumbtail and the yellow one is a wider wing swallow. Dustin is a real estate agent and has done some work as an extra on the TV show Lost. I think he has some scenes surfing in the new Bethany Hamilton movie. Maybe he could use his K.U. shaped boards on the set. Ha Ha!

Grace rider Ron Wong

Ron just got his new board! 5' 8 Grace fish. thisone has more tail rocker, almost as much as a shortboard. and Ron likes deep concaves through the fins. Will get some action shots soon!

Mia Hawaii Kai Cardinals

Mia's first day at baseball practice. She's having a great time. Tomorrow her team the Cardinals is having a game. Will have to post pics of her in uniform. Its going to take some time, but she can sure hit that ball!

4th of July fireworks

After a day at the beach, we went to Maunaloa Bay for a fireworks show. They do it from a boat right offshore. Everyone from Hawaii Kai came down to the bay to check it out. The top photo is very dark, but you can see the orange glow from the mountain. There was a fire on the mountain near residential hones in Kalama Valley! I hope that everyone homes are safe. You can smell the smoke all through Hawaii Kai.

Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4 th of July everybody! We had a nice day at Sandy Beach. The shorebreak is very dangerous for the kids so we stayed at the tidepools and went fishing. The lifeguards were very busy keeping the inexperienced out of the water.
